A study of 50 men who had been treated for prostate cancer, and who afterward drank eight ounces of pomegranate juice a day, tracked their PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels, a marker of the advance of the disease.

Finding: The average amount of time in which it took their PSA levels to double increased significantly, to 54 months (after drinking the juice) from 15 (before drinking the juice).

Key: Pomegranate juice contains polyphenolic flavonoids, antioxidant chemicals that may have cancer-preventing benefits.
