The best way to blow your nose is to use paper facial tissues, not handkerchiefs, in which bacteria can grow.

Also: Use a tissue once, then throw it away. Blow gently—too much pressure can push infectious fluid into ears and sinuses. Press a finger outside one nostril, then blow through the open one. Repeat on the other side. Always wash your hands after blowing. Wait 10 minutes after waking in the morning before blowing your nose—congestion decreases after you get up from a prone position.
