Human growth hormone (HGH), sometimes touted as an anti-aging agent, has potentially dangerous side effects. Most mainstream doctors point to higher diabetes risk, carpal tunnel syndrome, muscle pain and possible tumor growth as reasons to avoid HGH. But some alternative medicine practitioners recommend using HGH under carefully controlled and supervised circumstances. They say that daily HGH injections have sometimes resulted in improvements in blood pressure, heart ailments and other conditions. HGH costs up to $20,000 a year and is not covered by insurance.
