Herbal supplements raise risks from arthritis drugs.

Examples: Echinacea can increase risk of liver toxicity in people taking the arthritis drug metho-trexate. Ginkgo biloba, garlic and devil's claw can increase the risk of bleeding problems in people who also take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen.
Self-defense: Be sure your doctor and pharmacist know everything you take—prescription and over-the-counter drugs as well as herbal supplements.
