Grieving is a journey, and it is normal to have a hard time when you reach certain milestones, such as an anniversary birthday or holiday. Acknowledge these occasions in some special way-not necessarily at the cemetery. Come up with something meaningful to you.

Examples: Make a contribution or do some volunteer work on these days. Help someone in need, or plant a flower or a tree.

Accept your feelings-and don't try to hold them in.

Helpful: On difficult days reach out to empathetic friends, and spend some time with them-by phone if you cannot see them in person.
