The most effective strep-throat treatment is a I group of antibiotics tailed cephalosporins, sold as Cefpodoxime and Cefdinir. They work better in four to five days than penicillin or amoxicillin in 10 days. Children given penicillin were back at the doctor within three weeks 25% of the time...those treated with amoxicillin went back 18% of the time. Only 7% of children treated with cephalosporins saw the doctor a second time.
