In a recent finding, older men with the lowest levels of the hormone testosterone had a 40% greater risk of falling than those with the highest levels. It is too soon to say whether testosterone replacement would help prevent falls. Testosterone declines naturally with age. Older men can lower the risk of falling by increasing leg strength and coordination and by avoiding alcohol and sedatives, which may increase the risk of falls.
