Between jobs and need health coverage? Your cheapest option might be a short-term policy. It is almost always less expensive than federally regulated COBRA, which extends your former employer's coverage.

Important: If you have a preexisting condition, get COBRA and then see if you can get a short-term policy. After you get one, cancel COBRA.
