To help fight infections, take probiotics. These beneficial bacteria—which reside naturally in the body—can boost your immunity.

Example: The bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus fights digestive tract infections, including rotavirus and clostridium difficile. You can get probiotics from live-culture yogurt, sauerkraut, miso and kefir, and from supplements. Choose a supplement with Lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium, with at least two billion organisms per dose. Take according to label directions.
