Liraglutide (Sexenda) is a high-dose version of the diabetes drug Victoza to help control obesity. Like other weight-loss drugs, liraglutide curbs appetite-but it also acts like a natural hormone to slow stomach emptying. Gastrointestinal upsets are the most common side effect. Liraglutide, which is injected daily, is used with exercise and a weight-loss diet.

Whom it may help: Overweight people who have diabetes, prediabetes or another weight related health condition.
