Help for Sleep Apnea

Heart failure patients with central sleep ap- I Inea (in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep due to a brain malfunction) took either acetazolamide (Diamox), a mild diuretic and respiratory stimulant, or a placebo for six nights in a new study.

Result: Those who took acetazolamide slept better, had improved blood oxygen levels and were less fatigued during the day compared with those in a placebo group. Over time, treatment of sleep apnea is believed to aid cardiac function through improved oxygenation.
