Statin Drugs May Fight Parkinson's

An analysis of nearly 44,000 adults found that A those who stopped taking lipophilic (fat-soluble) statin drugs, such as simvastatin (Zocor) and atorvastatin (Lipitor), after reaching their LDL "bad" cholesterol target were 58% more likely to develop Parkinson's disease than those who continued to take the drugs.

Theory: Lipophilic statins have anti-inflammatory properties that may help prevent or delay the degeneration of brain cells that occurs in Parkinson's patients.

If you're considering going off statins: Talk with your doctor about your risk for Parkinson's.
