Soothe MS Symptoms Naturally

Regular B vitamin injections, especially B12 (weekly during flare-ups or monthly for prevention) can help alleviate some of the troubling symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS), such as fatigue, blurred vision, loss of balance and tremors. Extra doses of B vitamin supplements taken daily to prevent flare-ups also work well. In addition, taking vitamin D at high levels—3,000 international units (IU) daily—may be a worthwhile consideration. This may help reduce inflammation, which can bring about or worsen symptoms, and balance the immune system, which is thrown off kilter in patients with MS. Supplements of calcium (500 milligrams/mg) and magnesium (250 mg), both taken twice daily, can help with muscle spasms.

Other recommendations: Patients should avoid eating foods that can trigger symptoms-margarine...cooking oils, such as safflower and corn oil...packaged foods that list hydrogenated oils...and saturated fats (found in red meat and whole milk), and opt for more polyunsaturated fats, such as flaxseeds, flax oil and hempseed oil, and fish, such as sardines and salmon. MS patients also may benefit from a daily dose of supplemental fish oil. I recommend taking 1,500 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and 500 mg of gamma-linoleic acid (check labels).
