Infection-Fighter After Chemotherapy

Neutropenia—a low level of infection-fighting white blood cells—is a common complication of chemotherapy.

New study: More than 1,500 patients with breast, lung, testicular or other solid tumors or lymphoma took 500 mg of the antibiotic levofloxacin (Levaquin) or a placebo for seven days during each of six chemotherapy cycles.

Result: The patients taking levofloxacin experienced a 27% reduction in hospitalizations for infections during all six cycles.

If you are undergoing chemotherapy: Ask your doctor about adding levofloxacin to your regimen.
